An over 9,000 acre island, Marco Island is about 4 miles wide and 6 miles longs.  Marco Island is located on the Gulf of Mexico, 90 miles west of Miami and 50 miles south of Fort Myers and only 15 miles from Naples.  When the Spaniards were exploring most of Florida they stumbled upon this large island, it became known to all future sailors as La Isla de San Marco.  As years past the island became known as San Marco Island then finally Marco Island.  It is believed that at least 2000BC the ancestors of the Calusa Indians inhabited this remote Island.  Evidence of this was first discovered in 1895 when Captain Bill Collier, son of Marco's founder W.T. Collier was digging on his property. 

In 1870, W.t. Collier brought his wife and nine children to Marco Island.  In 1896, his son William D. "Captain Bill" Collier opened a 20 room hotel that is known today as the Olde Marco Inn and registered as an historical landmark.

Today Marco Island is a popular tourist destination, thanks to it's high-end hotels, calm warm waters, and beaches.  Marco Island has been described as mystical and alluring.  The population is almost 17,000 residents and increasing to twice that in the winter season.
